The Rivers And Their Ecology

Neversink River - The home waters of Theodore Gordon, who popularized the dry fly in the 19th century, the Neversink was a destination trout fishery for over a century. It has suffered chronically low flows since the building of the Neversink Reservoir because its high water quality is prized by New York City. With the removal of the Cuddebackville dam on the lower Neversink River in 2004, American Shad, the endangered dwarf-wedge mussel, and migrating trout now can freely access over 40 miles of additional habitat, including the spectacular Neversink Gorge Unique Area.
